An index by surname is located in the front of the register

Function / Content

This series consists of a single register which records details of the adoption of children. An index is located at the front of the register; entries are by the first letter of the surname. The register records the application (date), name and address of parents, details of the preferred child (race, male, female) including age, assess., s.14, placement (details of the adopted child), order made, further action, file number (F, A, or annual single number). The entries have notations which refer to overseas adoptions (O/S), SP/Rel (Specific child/relative adoption) and NT (NT adoption). These references relate to more detailed separate registers for the different types of adoptions. A note in the front of the register refers to pages 101-104 which relate to entries relating to the adoption of Aboriginal children which were copied from the previous register. The date of this register overlaps with NTRS 3883 (1963-1980) and it appears that entries were copied from the older register into this book, likely due to the poor condition of NTRS 3883.
