This series consists of general correspondence files and newspapers maintained by John Armstrong England, Administrator of the Northern Territory from 1976 to 1981. Included are files relating to Aboriginal land claims (box 1) and uranium (box 2). The newspapers contain coverage of Mr England's activities as Administrator. A copy of the Memorandum of Understanding regarding the financial arrangements between the Commonwealth and the Northern Territory at the time of self-government is contained in the file titled "Constitutional development" (box 1). These government records were transferred in August 1987 from Mrs Polly England, widow of John Armstrong England.
