Function / Content

This series consists of gate journals from Fannie Bay Gaol and Darwin Prison. The journals record the activities on the gate including arrivals and departures, the movement of prison officers and prisoners, visitors and other staff, as well as some internal activities such as the number of prisoners at recorded at muster. The journals are chronological with the time listed on the left of the page. The journals record only day activities until 24 June 1976 when the journals commence recording activities over a 24 hour period. On 1 September 1979 Fannie Bay Gaol was closed and the prisoners transferred to the new Darwin Prison at Berrimah. The journals continue at the new prison. This series was reprocessed in October 2008 and removed items were transferred into series NTRS 2604, NTRS 2756, NTRS 3357 and NTRS 3358.
