971 Netball NT

Description

The first official netball games in the Northern Territory were held in 1970. The Northern Territory Netball Association was formed in Darwin, and the Alice Springs Netball Association in Alice Springs. Both Associations affiliated individually with the South Australian Netball Association.

In 1977 negotiations between the Alice Springs and Darwin Netball Associations culminated with the formation of a new Northern Territory Netball Association (NTNA). The first Annual General Meeting of the Council of NTNA was held in June 1977 in Alice Springs, Northern Territory.

The previous Northern Territory Association changed its name to Darwin Netball Association. The new body affiliated with the All Australia Netball Association in its own right, and in 1978 the Northern Territory competed for the first time in the National Netball Championships.

Then, in 2006, the NTNA changed its name to Netball NT. The constitutional elected body of Netball NT is known as the Northern Territory Netball Association Limited. Netball NT is an associate member of Netball Australia, which is governed by the All Australian Netball Association (AANA).

Life members of the Northern Territory Netball Association Limited include; Shirley Richards (1988), Patricia Gallagher (1991), Anne Hosking (1991), Margaret McPherson (1991), Sandy MacKintosh (1999), Karen Schneider (1999), and Riley Wing (1999).

Netball NT, receives funding from the Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) and the Department of Local Government, Housing and Sport (DLGHS) of the Northern Territory Government.
